We head first to Saqqara, where we visit the famous Step Pyramid of Djoser – the oldest large pyramid in the world – along with the Pyramid of Teti and the beautifully decorated Tomb of Kagemni with its colorful wall reliefs. We also stop at a traditional handmade carpet factory and a local school in the Saqqara village for a real taste of Egyptian life.

Next we drive south to Dahshur, the royal necropolis of King Sneferu. Here you’ll see the unique Bent Pyramid – the first attempt at a true pyramid shape – and the impressive Red Pyramid, the first successful true pyramid. Enjoy a delicious buffet lunch at a good restaurant. After lunch we continue to the Giza Plateau. You will stand in awe of the three great Pyramids of Giza (Khufu, Khafre, and Menkaure) and the famous Great Sphinx.

In the late afternoon, we visit a well-known perfume factory in Cairo to learn about ancient Egyptian scents and shop for authentic perfumes (optional purchase). If time allows, we can add a quick optional visit to Old Cairo
